We made a Magna-Tiles Wreath with Eight Right Triangles in the Shape of a Ring!

We often think of an assortment of leaves, flowers, twigs, and fruit as decoration hung on doors, trees, and houses around the holiday season. Are you familiar with the other definitions of Wreath? The first known use of the word is before the 12th century!

From Merriam-Webster.com, Wreath (noun) means:

  1. something intertwined or arranged in a circular shape: as
  • A. a band of intertwined flowers or leaves worn as a mark of honor or victory

  • B. a decorative arrangement of foliage or flowers on a circular base

2.  something having a circular or coiling form

Play and LEARN with your children! Discuss where else you see circular shapes throughout your day! Make connections between math and the real world. Do any logos or objects with a Circular Shape come to mind? What about foods like a bagel or donut?!

Here are some ideas from Magna-Tects: an onion ring, the Chase Bank logo, the ring worn on your finger, rings of a tree, and the Olympic Rings!

A creative Magna-Tect wearing Magna-Tiles earrings! They are Equilateral Triangles.

We then made a Stack of Magna-Tiles to match the Colors of the Striped Pattern on her dress! Valtech Magna-Tiles Earrings

How can we describe this Pattern? Orange, Blue, Green, Blue, White, Blue, Red, Blue, Light Blue, Blue… then the pattern begins again with Orange! Challenge your Children to continue the pattern while saying the colors out loud.

Designer Christopher Palu created a cool (symmetrical) neckline and clutch with Magna-Tiles in his winning fashion on the Lifetime television series “Project Runway All Stars”!

The Unconventional Challenge was to use materials found in an elementary school classroom. Christopher found Magna-Tiles! The design process begins with a sketch! It seems as though he was looking for something colorful to add to his black piece… Magna-Tiles Clear Colors!

We added a hanging walkway! The flat surface resting on the rocks were constructed first. We used trial and error to find that if we rested the flat pieces on the rock, the three shapes were able to hang freely.

The Magna-Tiles do not fall! There is enough material on each side of the hanging walkway so that it was very stable.

It was a windy morning! A few pieces of the back "wall" tipped over into the plants from strong winds! If we added more pieces behind the wall like a stand, maybe it would be more wind-resistant.
