Gingerbread Magna-Tiles

Gingerbread Magna-Tiles were inspired by a play date where children built an amazing Azkaban Prison (from Harry Potter) out of Magna-Tiles.

I decided to create gingerbread Magna-Tiles for them to build their own haunted houses with during a cooking project/play date at our house.  Instead of magnets, of course, Royal Icing dyed grey would be used.  The recipe for the gingerbread is the same one I used last year.  It is so delicious and is perfect for building.

It was a very creative and sugar filled play date… click the link for the full blog post and instructions!

Replicas

Magna-Tiles in the classroom!

Students made a structure with Magna-Tiles and took a photo of it. One week later, three different groups were asked to make a replica of the structure by looking at the photo!

Here are the three separate replicas that were made by looking at a picture of the original structure. Can you see any differences?

Magna-Tiles Games: Let’s Play Hopscotch!!

The game of hopscotch uses early mathematical concepts including

  • counting
  • basic arithmetic

There are all sorts of ways to lay out your hopscotch board! What Magna-Tiles shapes do you see?

Hopscotch

What rules do your and your friends follow when you play? Here are a few!

  • call out numbers as you land on them
  • skip the number that your rock is on (and then figure out which number comes after the skipped one)
  • call out “left foot” or “one foot”
  • when you hop backwards, you must COUNT backwards!

To reinforce and practice math skills, think about the following while you PLAY:

  • number sequencing
  • odd/even numbers
  • addition
  • subtraction
  • time tables by hopping through the numbered squares!

Try this with your kids! What other fun games do you play and LEARN?!

Magna-Tiles on the Door

Magna-Tects discovered that they can make Magna-Tiles Mosaics on their steel door! While cleaning up one evening, Magna-Tects found Magna-Tiles pieces on the fridge door… so why not use them on the fridge or steel door to build in one dimension?! Creative!

Challenge your children to find other places at home and in the classroom that Magna-Tiles “stick” to. Thank you for sharing Creative Learning!
